Mitja Petrovič appointed Director Business & Content Development of the Golden Drum Festival

Golden Drum is proud to announce that this year, Mitja Petrovič, advertising industry veteran and a long-time friend and supporter of the festival, has been appointed to a position Director of Business & Content Development, Golden Drum Festival. His prime role and responsibilities will be helping Barbara Krajnc, Executive Director of the Golden Drum Festival, with this year’s Jury nomination & selection and setting-up the Festival program, selecting keynote speakers.

Barbara Krajnc, Executive Director of the Golden Drum Festival announced Mitja’s appointment with the following words of support: “Mitja is an industry veteran, a well-known and respected person & mentor, who possess vast experience in creative industry, in particular on the agency side, and has been awarded many times. I am very excited to have Mitja on board with us as I feel this year’s 22nd Golden Drum will be even better and more interesting also because of his contribution, fresh ideas and views.”

Before he became the Director Business & Content Development of the Golden Drum Festival, Mitja Petrovic was a long time director and co-owner of the agency Publicis Group Slovenia. In the past ten years he has managed to transform a successful creative boutique into a prosperous modern communications agency with international standards and domestic creative excellence. In 2009 and 2010 agency Publicis won the title of the Agency the year at the Slovenian Advertising Festival. He perfected his expertise at numerous international workshops on strategic planning, holistic and contagious communications. He had the opportunity and privilege to work for many Slovenian and foreign brands. He was a member of the Executive Board of the Slovenian Advertising Chamber, member of juries at various national and international advertising festivals (Golden Drum, Effie, Eurobest, Slovenian Advertising Festival [SOF]) and has received awards for his work at Epica, Cannes, Moscow festival, Crest, Golden Drum and Slovenian Advertising Festival (SOF). In March 2010 he was awarded the tile of Advertising personality of the year by Slovenian Advertising Chamber. In the same year he was the only European to have won Publicis Lions special achievements award for agency development. He was drawn in the advertising industry in 1990s by his obsession with radio ads; for what he has won his first Golden Drum in 1993. Before his career in advertising, he studied archaeology at the University of Ljubljana.

The first Golden Drum festival was organized in 1994, beginning as a modest idea many considered bold and overreaching. Since then, the Golden Drum International Advertising Festival has grown not only into a European manifestation but also into a prominent event noticed worldwide. From Trieste to Vladivostok, from Helsinki to Tel Aviv, the Golden Drum is recognized as one of the biggest, most important and most visible advertising overviews and events of the year. In the two decades of its existence it has gained the reputation of the friendliest among the bigger advertising events. During the past 21 years Golden Drum brought together more than 27,000 professionals from 40 countries all across the world. Over 38,000 entries have been submitted to compete for highly prestigious and cherished Golden Drum Awards. The Golden Drum Festival proudly welcomed numerous advertising and other celebrities as jury presidents, jury members and guest speakers. In 2010, Golden Drum has honoured its most loyal and passionate contributors and supporters in the Golden Drum Hall of Fame for the first time. Since then new members are honoured yearly. Golden Drum is proud to recognize Jure Apih, longstanding president and current Honorary President of Golden Drum, Adrian Botan, Farid Chehab, Michael Conrad, Ivan Čimburov, Meta Dobnikar, Ami Hasan, Jan Mariusz Demner, Jirži Mikeš, Juli Nemes(+), Milka Pogliani, Ulrich Proeschel, Daniel Ružička, Dragan Sakan(+), Juraj Vaculik, Vital Verlič, Darek Zatorski and Jarek Ziebinski as members of the Golden Drum Hall of Fame.

In a joint venture with affiliated regional festivals from Asia-pacific (ADfest), Ibero-America (FIAP) and the Art Directors Club of Europe (ADC*E), a new global as well as anti-globalist advertising award - The Intercontinental Advertising Cup (The Cup) - was launched. All shortlisted entries in Golden Drum Competition gain an exclusive right to compete for The Cup awards.
